Un año desde que snowboardista de Olimpiadas Especiales representó a Chile en los X-Games

El deportista Gonzalo Escobar participó de los X-Games de Aspen en 2020. Además, compitió junto a deportistas de talla mundial, así como con otros atletas de Olimpiadas Especiales.
Hace exactamente un año, entre el 23 y 25 de enero de 2020, Gonzalo Escobar (24) participó en los X-Games de Aspen, Colorado, Estados Unidos. Esta competencia es mundialmente famosa por reunir a los mejores exponentes del snowboard y otros deportes extremos.
“Comencé con el ski, luego de que mi abuelo me compró una tabla (de snowboard). Mi abuelo es un orgullo, lo acompaño desde chico a entrenar junto a mis primas. Entreno desde los nueve años hasta el presente”, recordó Gonzalo en la entrevista realizada por CDO hace un año.
Gonzalo compitió en la sexta carrera de Snowboard Unificado, una modalidad donde atletas con discapacidad intelectual forman duplas con snowboardistas de talla mundial, como el medallista olímpico Scotty Lago, quien fue compañero de Juan Guentrutripai, atleta de Olimpiadas Especiales Chile, en 2019 y luego, en 2020, hizo equipo con Escobar.
“Es un privilegio representar a Chile en los X-Games. Estoy muy feliz de competir con Scotty Lago y de que me ayude”, comentó Gonzalo para el medio deportivo.
El equipo de Lago y Escobar finalizó en sexto lugar con una marca de tiempo en conjunto de 40,40. Además, en su regreso compartió la experiencia junto a familiares, amigos y sus colegas.
Escobar recientemente volvió a recordar la experiencia y comentó acerca de la marca obtenida:
“Hay que saber perder y felicitar al otro; lo importante es pasarlo bien y disfrutar. Uno se bajonea, pero se pasa con el tiempo. Hay que disfrutar de la experiencia”
Además, también rememoró la importancia del evento para él:
“La pasé muy pero muy bien. Estuve feliz y orgulloso por mi y por representar a todos los chilenos y chilenas. Fueron unos de los mejores días de mi vida. Además, el 23 de enero es el cumpleaños de mi mamá y fue el mejor regalo que le pude dar a ella, a mi familiares, amigos y al país”
